15 DAYS ITINERARY IN BULGARIA

Travel itinerary in Bulgaria15 days in Bulgaria with a child of 2 yearsFROM SOFIA TO THE COASTS OF THE BLACK SEA

It was in August 2018 that we visited Bulgaria with our 2 year old son.

It is an easy destination for a road trip, which attracts little tourists (except Russian) but also inexpensive!

Bulgaria has a heritage and a rich tradition as well as mountains renowned for their beauty.

It also offers a long coastline with pleasant beaches on the Black Sea.

Here is a summary of the itinerary we followed for this 2-week Road Trip to Bulgaria

OUR FAMILY ROAD TRIP IN BULGARIA

In a few words

Change of scenery as every time you set foot in Eastern Europe. The architecture lets perceive the ex communist atmosphere, we meet a Slav culture and austere at first sight but warm thereafter. This trip offers us a cocktail of tradition and incessant modernity. The black sea gives us the sensation of traveling on the Côte d'Azur of the 70's ...

It is a pleasant country to discover, the strolls in the cities are always relaxed and the tourist places far from being crowded. Big flat for the beaches covered with umbrellas and funfairs that punctuate the summer season throughout the country. Because in the beginning it is exotic (seen the state of the machinery) but in the long run it is rather heavy atmosphere "rides, balloons, candy floss".

No doubt, it's a perfect destination for kids, from babies to teens.

How did I organize this trip?

For this 15-day Bulgarian road trip, I first read many guides and blogs to get a clear idea of the map and the places to visit. Since we left in August and we wanted to beach for our son (the mountain is a bit more complicated because he was only 2 years old), we preferred the coast of the Black Sea.

To avoid too long distances, I booked a ticket Paris> Sofia to go and Varna> Paris to return.

I have pre-booked a city car for 15 days with removal of the vehicle to Sofia and return to Varna. I also planned all the hotels as I needed to request a cot for each step! On that side, it was very easy. Each hotel offering a late cancellation, I could change my mind along the way (especially for the end of the stay when I booked a rental on Golden Sands beach, but all the locals made me prefer Nessebar! ).

Bulgaria with a baby or a child

Why is it a perfect destination to travel with a baby?

  • The most frequent accommodations for families are "appart-hotels". They are always very well equipped to travel as a family with a little one. The price is never excessive (40 € per night on average for spacious apartments, well placed, with terrace ...)
  • The hotels always put a cot in the room but remember to prevent several days in advance (rarely charged or 2 € per night)
  • The restaurants are all equipped with children's chairs and often play areas, however the concept of children's menu does not exist and vegetables are hard to find in menus that focus on meat.
  • The car rentals provide baby or child seats, the roads are in good condition and the Bulgarian driving quite correct.
  • There are play areas for little ones (slides, swings) on every street corner and throughout the country. And then rides and horse parties everywhere, it's pretty amazing besides the place that takes the activities planned for children in this country.
  • The beaches of the Black Sea are suitable for children, and do not panic if you forgot buoy, mask, snorkel, beach umbrella, sunscreen or beach games! Beach shops are systematic.
